Many of us have felt a bit overwhelmed during the last couple of weeks as the Solstice energy worked its magic! You may still be feeling in the midst of the energy and perhaps emotions are coming up for you. I want you to know that it is okay to feel whatever it is you are feeling right now! We sometimes feel that we need to be positive and happy all the time because we are on the spiritual path and when we have a bad day or just feel a bit ‘blue’ then we feel guilty or believe that we are not doing well enough. Give yourself a break!!
In fact, change that and give yourself a pat on the back for experiencing these emotions and for wanting to release them! Part of being human is experiencing all sorts of different emotions. They help guide us when something is not quite right in our lives and show us when things are absolutely fantastic! If you are feeling negative for whatever reason, know that stuff is coming up to be healed. Be kind to yourself and let yourself feel whatever emotions are happening. If you feel angry, don’t bury it, let it out by punching a pillow or screaming from the top of your lungs! If you feel sad, put on some emotive music and let yourself feel the sadness and release by having a good cry.
Emotions are supposed to be felt. They are there for a reason and they help the body to heal. We all want to be happy and joyful, but sometimes we just don’t feel like it!! Trust what your body is telling you and release in whichever way feels right to you.
When emotions come up, we can sometimes get in our head and start thinking about all the reasons why we feel the way we do, what we need to do to change how we feel and also look outside ourselves for the answers. We have all the answers within, we just need to connect with our ‘whole’ selves rather than just with our minds!
If you are feeling out of sorts, I also recommend re-connecting with your body as you may be too much in your head to know which step to take next! You can do this in many different ways. For example: Spend 5 mins just focussing on your breath and enjoying the peace! Do a bit of yoga, even if it is for only 10 mins or just do some stretching. Give yourself some healing, but focus on the body and stay out of your head! Treat yourself to a massage and have some ‘me’ time.
There are two full moons this month, which will help illuminate the way forward. The first full moon is today, 1st July and the second is on the 31st July. This week’s full moon is all about balance and illuminating those areas that we may not want to reveal! This is one of the reasons why it is so important to re-connect with our bodies as then we will be able to deal with whatever is illuminated as a whole rather than pieces!
This month’s energy feels a lot like the ocean waves! At the moment the waves are quite gentle and are lapping the shore, but I feel that from the 4th July they may get a little bigger and more powerful! They will then ebb and flow more gently again during the middle of the month and may become a little stormy towards the end! Our emotional bodies will be the most affected by this energy, so stay focused on your emotions this month and if something comes up, know it is helping you to heal. Don’t be fearful of how you feel. Embrace each aspect of yourself as it comes up and face those areas of yourself that you may not like all that much! Acceptance is the key towards the end of the month. When we accept ourselves for who we are, warts and all, then we are on the path to truly loving ourselves.
Last month I went though a few days of feeling quite angry and didn’t really understand why until I connected with my body and asked! I realised that I didn’t feel appreciated and this was quite a deep issue for me and came up in all sorts of areas in my life. I looked deeper and realised it wasn’t really about other people appreciating me, it was about me appreciating myself! So I let go some of the anger by going out with my dog and yelling in the middle of a field! I wrote a list about all the things that other people appreciate about me and also a list of the things I appreciate about myself. I was actually surprised when I came up with quite a long list!! I then decided I wanted an affirmation to help me appreciate myself more each day. Below is what I came up with for what felt good for me, so I wanted to share it with you as it also helped me accept myself a whole lot more too!
“I honour who I am right now, who I was and who I will become.”
Accepting ourselves completely is never easier, but it is the first stage of true love, for ourselves!!
